There is a responsibility, in fact, for civilians to understand the cost of conflict if not personally, then at least in some broader intellectual sense. Much of the appeal of novels, essays, and reported stories on war is driven not by a morbid curiosity in conflict so much as a desire to better know who we are, what we’re capable of, and what the cost of indulging in the most base parts of ourselves truly is. However, the few instances in which we allow ourselves to be as brutal and wicked as we truly are, is in war. Over the centuries, however, society has managed to put up guards against the worst parts of ourselves by establishing and enforcing social norms. So long as there have been people on this planet, we’ve been willing to kill and maim one another in order to get what we want. For better or worse, conflict is an inherent part of human nature. ![]() ![]() Lewis George Orwell Mary Pope Osborne LeUyen Pham Dav Pilkey Roger Priddy Rick Riordan J. 7/7/2023 0 Comments Firestarter by Tara Sim![]() I also found it a bit weird Danny and Colton agreed on this plan with Harlon’s blood yet never actually asked the person whose blood it was if he minded until the end. ![]() There were some really ridiculous incidents also, for example Harlon’s blood was meant to save Colton but then it didn’t. ![]() I didn’t feel the parts where the book was trying to catch the reader up on past events and link the story together in the end really difficult and in some cases confusing to follow. Danny never learning from his mistakes, Danny being selfish yet quick to judge others. I felt this book really dragged and although I enjoyed the fact it was set in India and through it we learnt more about Daphne and other characters in a way I felt the Danny storyline was just annoying. I think I would have actually preferred if their story had ended but it was very much a predictable story line. I found myself disliking Danny’s character and I felt he was a massive hypocrite with Colton. ![]() I enjoyed book 1 and found book 2 interesting but by book 3 Danny and Colton were really starting to get on my nerves. ![]() 7/7/2023 0 Comments Faith ringgold tar beach 1988![]() ![]() Ringgold’s first story quilt Who’s Afraid of Aunt Jemima? was written in 1983 as a way of publishing her unedited words.
